Artist in Resident: Casa Na Ilha
The Body-ody-ody project continued during this residency at Casa Na Ilha in Ilhabela, Brazil. Inspired by the island’s nature and lively people, a special focus on color was the idea for the evolution of this project. In addition to digital drawings, this project was expressed in textiles with embroidery as well as physically in nature. These digital drawings are based on both paintings as well as photos of fat models and influencers, given their consent. This combination using both the digital sphere and our physical, natural one expresses the idea that the spaces that fat bodies frequent are not and shouldn’t be limited. Fat bodies belong in nature just as much as we belong in photos, catalogues, tapestries, paintings, museums, on social media, and more whether as representation or just as existence. Additionally, poetry was read and written, journals and notebooks were filled up, and a zine will soon be published with both illustration and poetry.
Overall, much was accomplished, and it may or may not have been partially done so in candle light.
